Aripiprazole Lauroxil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Fennel interacts with.

Theoretically, fennel might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.

In vitro research suggests that fennel inhibits CYP3A4 enzyme activity. This effect has not been reported in humans.

Your Aristada injection (aripiprazole lauroxil) relies partly on a liver enzyme called CYP3A4 to be processed by your body. In a test-tube setting, fennel appears to slow that enzyme down. If that happened in real life, aripiprazole could build up a bit and you might notice more of its usual effects, like drowsiness, restlessness, dizziness, or feeling shaky.

Here's the reassuring part: this has only been seen in lab studies, never in actual people, so it's mostly theoretical. Everyday fennel in cooking or tea is very unlikely to cause a problem. Concentrated fennel supplements or fennel essential oil are where I'd be a little more cautious. Since this is a long-acting shot, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding fennel capsules.

Aripiprazole injection is used to treat schizophrenia and to provide maintenance treatment for bipolar I disorder in adults. Different injectable products carry these approvals.

Abilify Asimtufii is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults and as maintenance monotherapy for bipolar I disorder in adults. Aristada is approved for the treatment of schizophrenia in adults, with Aristada Initio used specifically to help start Aristada therapy.
