Why this applies to Tadalafil

Tadalafil falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Fo-ti interacts with.

Theoretically, fo-ti might increase the levels and clinical effects of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
In vitro research suggests that fo-ti might inhibit CYP3A4. One in vitro study suggests that the degree of CYP3A4 inhibition may depend on the type of fo-ti extract (i.e., the raw plant leads to greater inhibition than extensively processed extracts). However, this evidence conflicts with animal research suggesting that fo-ti does not inhibit CYP3A4. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the basic idea: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to break down tadalafil (Cialis). Lab studies hint that Fo-ti might slow that enzyme down a bit. If it did, tadalafil could clear out more slowly and build up, which can mean stronger effects and more of its usual side effects, like headache, flushing, a stuffy nose, back or muscle aches, and lightheadedness. Since tadalafil already lowers blood pressure, that dizzy or faint feeling is the one I'd watch most.

That said, I want to keep this in perspective. This is only a theoretical concern from test-tube work, and it hasn't been seen in real people. Still, since Fo-ti also carries some liver-safety questions, it's worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

About Tadalafil

What Is Tadalafil Used For?

Brand names: Cialis, Tadliq

Tadalafil tablets (including Cialis and generic tadalafil) are used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH — an enlarged prostate), or both conditions together. When used with the drug finasteride to start BPH treatment, this combination is recommended for up to 26 weeks.

Adcirca, Alyq (tablets), and Tadliq (oral suspension) are indicated specifically for pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH — high blood pressure in the lungs), to improve the ability to exercise.
