Tirofiban falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Forsythia interacts with.

Theoretically, taking forsythia with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding due to decreased platelet aggregation. Forsythia might reduce platelet aggregation by inhibiting platelet activating factor. Some of these drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Here's the thing to keep in mind: Tirofiban (Aggrastat) is already a strong blood thinner. It's given through an IV in the hospital, usually during heart procedures, to stop platelets from clumping together. Forsythia, in lab studies, may also nudge platelets toward being less sticky by blocking a chemical called platelet activating factor.

Stack those two together and the worry is simply more bleeding, things like easy bruising, oozing at IV or catheter sites, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums. That said, this is a theoretical concern based only on lab and animal work, and it's rated unlikely. Since tirofiban is used in a closely monitored hospital setting, your care team is watching for this. Still, always tell your doctor or pharmacist about any herbs you take.

Tirofiban hydrochloride injection — available as Aggrastat and under the generic names Tirofiban and Tirofiban Hydrochloride — is used intravenously in people with non-ST elevation acute coronary syndrome (NSTE-ACS), a type of unstable heart condition where blood flow to the heart is dangerously reduced.

The goal is to lower the combined risk of death, heart attack (myocardial infarction), or persistent ischemia (insufficient blood flow to the heart) that may require a repeat cardiac procedure.
