Enoxaparin falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Forsythia interacts with.

Theoretically, taking forsythia with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs might increase the risk of bleeding due to decreased platelet aggregation. Forsythia might reduce platelet aggregation by inhibiting platelet activating factor. Some of these drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.

Enoxaparin (Lovenox) is a blood thinner you inject, and its whole job is to keep clots from forming. Forsythia, a traditional herb, may have a mild effect on your platelets (the cells that help blood stick together and clot). In theory, stacking the two could nudge your blood toward being a little too slow to clot, which means more bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or bleeding that takes longer to stop.

I want to be honest with you though: this concern comes only from lab and animal studies, not real patient data, so it's considered unlikely. Still, since Lovenox is already a potent anticoagulant, I'd play it safe and run the forsythia past your pharmacist or doctor before combining them. Watch for any unusual bleeding and report it right away.

About Enoxaparin Injection

What Is Enoxaparin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Lovenox

Enoxaparin injection is used to prevent deep vein thrombosis (DVT) — blood clots in the legs — in people having abdominal surgery, hip replacement surgery, or knee replacement surgery, and in hospitalized patients who are largely immobile due to acute illness. It is also used to treat acute DVT, with or without a pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs), both in the hospital and at home.

It is also used alongside aspirin to reduce dangerous complications of unstable angina and non-Q-wave heart attack, and to treat acute STEMI (a severe type of heart attack involving full blockage of a coronary artery) in patients who receive clot-dissolving therapy or undergo a procedure to open the blocked artery (PCI).
