ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Semaglutide
Semaglutide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Garlic interacts with.
Clinical research suggests that garlic and garlic extract lower blood glucose levels in healthy and diabetic individuals.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with garlic and semaglutide (Ozempic, Wegovy, Rybelsus). Semaglutide already lowers your blood sugar by helping your pancreas release insulin when sugar runs high. Some studies suggest garlic, especially in concentrated supplement doses, may nudge blood sugar down a little on its own. Stack the two together and you could see lower blood sugar than expected.
This isn't a dangerous, drug-blocking interaction, and the evidence is fairly modest. Garlic used as food in cooking is very unlikely to cause trouble. If you take a daily garlic capsule alongside semaglutide, just keep an eye out for shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling foggy, and check your sugars if you can. Chat with your pharmacist or doctor before adding a garlic supplement so they can watch your numbers.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Semaglutide page
“Semaglutide (Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy) lowers blood sugar, and so do most of the 256 supplements on this page, which is why I read this list with real vigilance rather than a shrug. Nearly all of the entries either add to its glucose-lowering effect and raise the risk of hypoglycemia, or push sugar the other way and blunt it, as niaci…”

About Garlic
What is Garlic?
- High blood pressure
- High cholesterol
- Heart health
- Immune support and common cold
- Antimicrobial uses
Garlic is a common food and supplement that may modestly help with blood pressure and cholesterol, though the evidence is mixed and effects are usually small. It is generally safe in food amounts, but concentrated supplements can cause stomach upset, breath and body odor, and a higher risk of bleeding. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before taking garlic supplements, especially if you take other medicines.
About Semaglutide
What Is Semaglutide Used For?
Brand names: Ozempic, Rybelsus, Wegovy
Semaglutide is available as Wegovy (injection and tablet) and Ozempic (injection), and each product has its own approved uses. Wegovy injection is approved — alongside diet and exercise — to reduce excess body weight in adults and in children aged 12 and older with obesity, to lower the risk of serious heart events (heart attack, stroke, or cardiovascular death) in adults with obesity or overweight who also have established heart disease, and for treatment of a liver condition called MASH (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis, formerly called NASH) with moderate-to-advanced scarring in adults. Wegovy tablets share the cardiovascular risk reduction and weight management uses in adults, but are not approved for MASH or for use in children. Ozempic injection is approved to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes (alongside diet and exercise) and to reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with type 2 diabetes who also have established heart disease.
All forms are used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Ozempic is not approved for type 1 diabetes. The MASH approval for Wegovy injection is an accelerated approval, meaning continued approval may depend on results from a confirmatory study.

Semaglutide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Semaglutide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Garlic — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
