Here's the gist for your Tracleer (bosentan). This medicine already works to relax and widen the blood vessels in your lungs, which can nudge your overall blood pressure down a bit. The concern with gentian is that some lab research suggests it may also relax blood vessels and lower blood pressure slightly. Stack the two together and, in theory, your blood pressure could dip a little more than expected.

I'll be honest: this is a theoretical worry built on test-tube and animal studies, not real patient reports, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it. Still, if you notice dizziness, lightheadedness, or feeling faint when you stand up, that's worth mentioning. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding gentian, and don't change your bosentan on your own.

What Is Bosentan Used For?

Brand name: Tracleer

Bosentan is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) — high blood pressure in the arteries of the lungs. In adults, it helps improve the ability to exercise and slows how quickly the disease gets worse.

In children aged 3 years and older with idiopathic (no known cause) or congenital (present from birth) PAH, bosentan is used to lower resistance in the lung blood vessels, which is expected to improve exercise ability. Tracleer is one brand approved for both adults and pediatric patients with PAH.
