Here's the short version: indapamide already lowers your blood pressure by helping your kidneys flush out extra salt and water. Gentian, in lab studies, seems to relax blood vessels a little on its own. Put the two together and there's a theory that your blood pressure could dip a bit lower than expected.

If that happened, you might feel lightheaded, dizzy, or tired, especially when standing up quickly. I want to be honest, though: this concern comes only from test-tube and animal research, not from real people, so it's far from a sure thing. The bitter taste of gentian in a small "bitters" dose before a meal is unlikely to rock the boat. Still, if you take indapamide, mention any gentian supplement to your pharmacist or doctor and keep an eye on how you feel.

Gentian is a very bitter root traditionally used to stimulate appetite and ease mild digestive complaints, often as part of "bitters" before meals. The evidence is mostly traditional and preliminary, and while short-term use of normal amounts appears generally well tolerated in healthy adults, anyone with ulcers, reflux, or who is pregnant should be cautious and check with a pharmacist or doctor first.

What Is Indapamide Used For?

Brand names: Lozol, Lozide

Indapamide tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension), either on their own or together with other blood pressure medications. Lowering blood pressure helps reduce the risk of related complications.

Indapamide tablets are also used to treat salt and fluid retention (edema) associated with congestive heart failure. In certain cases, indapamide may also be appropriate during pregnancy when swelling is caused by a medical condition rather than normal pregnancy changes — but routine use in otherwise healthy pregnant women is not recommended.
