Here's the gist with lisinopril and gentian. Lisinopril already relaxes your blood vessels to bring blood pressure down. Some lab and animal research hints that gentian may also widen blood vessels a little, so the worry is that putting the two together could nudge your blood pressure lower than intended.

I want to be honest about the strength of this: it's theoretical, based on test-tube and animal data, not solid human studies. The bitters most folks sip before meals are small amounts and unlikely to cause trouble. Still, if you take lisinopril and notice dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, or feeling unusually tired, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before adding a concentrated gentian supplement.

Gentian is a very bitter root traditionally used to stimulate appetite and ease mild digestive complaints, often as part of "bitters" before meals. What Is Lisinopril Used For?

Brand names: Zestril, Prinivil, Qbrelis

Lisinopril treats high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and children 6 years and older, and can be used alone or alongside other blood pressure medicines. Lowering blood pressure reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks. The tablet combination product containing lisinopril and hydrochlorothiazide is specifically indicated for high blood pressure.

Lisinopril is also used as an add-on therapy to reduce signs and symptoms of systolic heart failure, and to reduce the risk of death in people who are hemodynamically stable (have reasonably stable circulation) within 24 hours of an acute heart attack (acute myocardial infarction).
