Grapefruit + Indapamide
Indapamide brand names: Lozol, Lozide.
Grapefruit has a major interaction with Indapamide. Grapefruit or grapefruit juice, especially if consumed in large amounts, can cause additive QT interval prolongation when taken with QT interval-prolonging drugs, potentially increasing the risk of ventricular arrhythmias.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS
Why this applies to Indapamide
Indapamide falls under QT INTERVAL-PROLONGING DRUGS — the group Grapefruit interacts with.
Clinical research in healthy volunteers shows that drinking 6 liters of grapefruit juice over 6 hours prolonged the QTc by a peak amount of 14 milliseconds (ms). This prolongation was similar to the QT prolongation caused by the drug moxifloxacin. In individuals with long QT syndrome, a smaller dose of grapefruit juice, 1.5 liters, resulted in a greater peak QTc prolongation of about 30 ms. The effect of smaller quantities of grapefruit juice on the QT interval is unclear.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's something most people don't realize about grapefruit: in large amounts, it can slightly stretch out the heart's electrical reset time (called the QT interval). Indapamide can nudge that same interval too, so combining the two could add up and, in rare cases, raise the chance of an irregular heartbeat.
What makes this matter more with indapamide is that it's a water pill. It can lower your potassium and magnesium, and low levels of those minerals make QT problems more likely. The research used very large grapefruit amounts (think liters of juice), so an occasional half grapefruit at breakfast is unlikely to be a problem. Still, if you eat or drink it often, mention it to your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What These Ratings Mean
Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.
- AHigh-quality meta-analysis (quantitative systematic review).
- BCase-control study.
- CConsensus.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Indapamide page
“A water pill like indapamide (Lozol) lowers blood pressure and pulls potassium down, and most of the 215 supplements and herbs on file press on those same levers. Thirteen entries rate major, so this is a list to read with real care rather than skim.”

About Indapamide
What Is Indapamide Used For?
Brand names: Lozol, Lozide
Indapamide tablets treat high blood pressure (hypertension). They can be used alone or with other blood pressure medicines.
They also treat salt and fluid retention (edema) linked to congestive heart failure. In pregnancy, indapamide is meant for swelling caused by a medical condition, not for the normal swelling many pregnant women have.
