Pazopanib falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Ginger interacts with.
Laboratory research suggests that ginger inhibits thromboxane synthetase and decreases platelet aggregation. However, this has not been demonstrated unequivocally in humans, with mixed results from clinical trials. Theoretically, excessive amounts of ginger might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing with pazopanib (Votrient): on its own it can already nudge up your bleeding risk and affect blood pressure and wound healing, which is common with this group of cancer kinase inhibitors. Ginger enters the picture because lab studies suggest it may make platelets a little less sticky, so in theory stacking the two could add up to easier bruising or bleeding (think nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that are slow to stop).
I want to be honest that this is mostly theory. Human studies on ginger and bleeding have been mixed, and the small amounts you'd use in cooking are very unlikely to cause trouble. It's concentrated ginger supplements, especially in higher doses, that warrant a heads-up. Please loop in your oncologist or pharmacist before adding a ginger supplement, particularly around any procedure or surgery.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES

In vitro research and some case reports suggest that ginger inhibits CYP3A4 activity. Three case reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) adverse drug reaction database describe increased toxicity in patients taking ginger and cancer medications that are CYP3A4 substrates (imatinib, dabrafenib, and crizotinib). However, the causality of this interaction is unclear due to the presence of multiple interacting drugs and routes of administration.
Conversely, other in vitro research suggests that ginger induces CYP3A4 activity, leading to reduced levels of CYP3A4 substrates. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the honest picture: your kidney cancer medicine pazopanib (Votrient) is cleared from your body by a liver enzyme called CYP3A4, and ginger may nudge that enzyme in either direction. Pazopanib is active as taken (not a prodrug), so if ginger slows CYP3A4, pazopanib could build up and bring more side effects like high blood pressure, diarrhea, fatigue, or liver strain. If ginger instead speeds the enzyme up, levels could drop and the drug may work less well.
That said, this is based mostly on lab studies and a few unclear case reports, not solid human data, so don't panic. Ordinary ginger in cooking or tea is unlikely to be a problem. Before starting concentrated ginger capsules, just run it by your oncology pharmacist or doctor.

P-GLYCOPROTEIN SUBSTRATES

In vitro research and case reports suggest that ginger inhibits drug efflux by P-gp, potentially increasing absorption and serum levels of P-gp substrates. Two case reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) adverse drug reaction database describe increased toxicity in patients taking ginger and cancer medications that are P-gp substrates (trametinib, crizotinib). However, the causality of this interaction is unclear due to the presence of multiple interacting drugs and routes of administration.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the idea with ginger and your Votrient (pazopanib). Pazopanib is moved out of your gut and cells by a little pump called P-glycoprotein. Lab studies suggest ginger may slow that pump down, which in theory could let a bit more pazopanib get absorbed and raise the levels in your blood. Higher levels can mean a stronger chance of side effects like high blood pressure, diarrhea, fatigue, nausea, or changes in liver tests.
I want to be honest about the evidence here: this comes mostly from test-tube research and a couple of unclear case reports with other cancer drugs, not solid human studies. Everyday ginger in food or tea is unlikely to be a problem. Concentrated ginger supplements are the bigger question, so please check with your oncologist or pharmacist before starting them.

What Is Pazopanib Used For?
Brand name: Votrient
Pazopanib tablets — sold as the brand Votrient and as generic pazopanib — are used to treat two types of advanced cancer in adults: advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), the most common form of kidney cancer, and advanced soft tissue sarcoma (STS) in patients who have already received prior chemotherapy.
Important limitation: Pazopanib has not been shown to work in adipocytic soft tissue sarcoma (a subtype involving fat cells) or in gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs), so it is not used for those cancers.
