Warfarin Sodium falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Ginger interacts with.
Laboratory research suggests that ginger inhibits thromboxane synthetase and decreases platelet aggregation. However, this has not been demonstrated unequivocally in humans, with mixed results from clinical trials. Theoretically, excessive amounts of ginger might increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the deal with warfarin and ginger. Warfarin already lowers your blood's ability to clot, and some lab studies suggest ginger may make platelets a little less sticky on their own. Stack those two together, and in theory you could nudge yourself toward easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or harder-to-stop cuts.
That said, the human evidence here is genuinely mixed, and food-level amounts (ginger in cooking, tea, or a little candied ginger) are unlikely to cause trouble. The bigger question mark is with concentrated ginger supplements taken regularly. Because warfarin is a finicky drug where small shifts matter, please don't start or stop ginger supplements without first checking with your pharmacist or doctor, who can keep an eye on your INR.

WARFARIN (Coumadin)
2 of 5Laboratory research suggests that ginger might inhibit thromboxane synthetase and decrease platelet aggregation. In one case report, ginger increased the INR when taken with phenprocoumon, which has similar pharmacological effects as warfarin. In another case report, ginger increased the INR when taken with a combination of warfarin, hydrochlorothiazide, and acetaminophen. A longitudinal analysis suggests that taking ginger increases the risk of bleeding in patients taking warfarin for at least 4 months. However, research in healthy people suggests that ginger has no effect on INR, or the pharmacokinetics or pharmacodynamics of warfarin. Until more is known, monitor INRs closely in patients taking large amounts of ginger.

Here's the simple version: ginger may add to warfarin's blood-thinning effect rather than block it. Lab studies show ginger can make platelets a little less sticky, and a few case reports describe people whose INR (the blood test that tracks how thin your blood is) crept up while combining the two. The worry is that pushing your INR too high raises your chance of bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or harder-to-stop bleeding.
That said, the evidence is mixed, and studies in healthy people found no real change. Warfarin is a narrow-margin drug, so even small shifts matter. Sprinkling ginger in cooking is unlikely to be a problem, but regular concentrated ginger supplements are worth mentioning to your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your INR.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES

In vitro research and some case reports suggest that ginger inhibits CYP3A4 activity. Three case reports from the World Health Organization (WHO) adverse drug reaction database describe increased toxicity in patients taking ginger and cancer medications that are CYP3A4 substrates (imatinib, dabrafenib, and crizotinib). However, the causality of this interaction is unclear due to the presence of multiple interacting drugs and routes of administration.
Conversely, other in vitro research suggests that ginger induces CYP3A4 activity, leading to reduced levels of CYP3A4 substrates. However, this interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the honest picture with warfarin and ginger. The lab-based concern on file is that ginger might nudge the CYP3A4 enzyme either up or down, which could in theory shift how much warfarin is in your system. But this is based on test-tube and animal data, not solid human evidence, so I wouldn't lose sleep over it.
What matters more is that warfarin is a narrow-therapeutic-index drug, meaning small changes can tip you toward bleeding (easy bruising, nosebleeds, blood in urine or stool) or, the other way, less protection from clots. Ginger itself may also mildly thin the blood. Food amounts in cooking are unlikely to be a problem, but concentrated supplements are worth a quick chat with your pharmacist or doctor, who can check your INR.

What Is Warfarin Used For?

Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.
In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
