Moringa + Warfarin Sodium
Warfarin Sodium brand names: Coumadin, Panwarfin, Sofarin.
Warfarin Sodium falls into 2 drug categories that Moringa can interact with; the most serious is rated moderate. Theoretically, moringa might increase or decrease levels of CYP3A4 substrates.

These two interact in 2 distinct ways. Each one is explained separately below.
Why Are There 2 Interactions?
Moringa interacts with whole categories of medication. Warfarin Sodium falls into 2 of those categories, so it can interact with Moringa in 2 different ways. We’ve listed each one below — your overall risk is driven by the most serious of them (Moderate).
CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES
1 of 2Why this applies to Warfarin Sodium
Warfarin Sodium falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Moringa interacts with.
Some in vitro research suggests that moringa inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). However, other in vitro research suggests that moringa extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes. A pharmacokinetic study in patients with HIV shows no change in the pharmacokinetics of nevirapine, which is partially metabolized by CYP3A4, when administered concomitantly with moringa leaf powder 1.85 grams daily for 14 days.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture with moringa and warfarin. Warfarin is a true blood thinner, not a prodrug, so it works as-is. The concern on file is that moringa might shift the enzyme (CYP3A4) that helps clear part of your warfarin. The tricky part is that lab studies point in both directions: some suggest moringa slows that enzyme (which could raise warfarin levels and your bleeding risk, like easy bruising, nosebleeds, or blood in urine), while others suggest it speeds it up (which could weaken warfarin and raise clot risk).
This is theoretical, based on lab and animal data, not solid human proof. But because warfarin is a narrow-window drug where small changes matter, please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before adding moringa, and keep up your regular INR checks.

CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES
2 of 2Warfarin Sodium also falls under CYTOCHROME P450 1A2 (CYP1A2) SUBSTRATES.
In vitro research shows that moringa extract induces CYP1A2 enzymes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist for warfarin. Lab studies suggest moringa may speed up an enzyme called CYP1A2, which is one of the pathways that helps clear warfarin. If your body breaks warfarin down a little faster, the blood thinning could weaken, and in theory that means slightly less protection against clots. The flip side is that if you start or stop moringa, your levels could drift the other way too.
I want to keep this in perspective. This is only seen in test-tube research, not in people, so it's theoretical. But warfarin is a narrow-margin drug where even small shifts in your INR matter. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding moringa, and keep up your regular INR checks.

Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

About Moringa
What is Moringa?
- Nutritional supplement
- Blood sugar support
- Cholesterol support
- Inflammation
- Skin conditions
Moringa is a nutrient-rich plant whose leaves are widely used as a food and supplement, especially in parts of the world where malnutrition is common. Early research hints at possible benefits for blood sugar, cholesterol, and inflammation, but the human evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using moringa, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications.
About Warfarin
What Is Warfarin Used For?
Brand names: Coumadin, Panwarfin, Sofarin
Warfarin sodium tablets and Jantoven tablets are both used to prevent and treat venous thrombosis (blood clots in the veins) and pulmonary embolism (a clot in the lungs). They are also used to prevent clot-related complications in people with atrial fibrillation (an irregular heart rhythm) or who have had a heart valve replaced.
In people who have had a heart attack, warfarin is used to reduce the risk of death, another heart attack, stroke, or other clotting events. It does not dissolve an existing clot, but it helps prevent the clot from growing and stops new dangerous clots from forming.
