Why this applies to Aripiprazole

Aripiprazole falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Moringa interacts with.

Theoretically, moringa might increase or decrease levels of CYP3A4 substrates.
Some in vitro research suggests that moringa inhibits cytochrome P450 3A4 (CYP3A4). However, other in vitro research suggests that moringa extract induces CYP3A4 enzymes. A pharmacokinetic study in patients with HIV shows no change in the pharmacokinetics of nevirapine, which is partially metabolized by CYP3A4, when administered concomitantly with moringa leaf powder 1.85 grams daily for 14 days.

Here's the short version: your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help clear aripiprazole (Abilify). Lab studies on moringa are mixed, with some hinting it slows that enzyme and others suggesting it speeds it up. So we honestly can't predict which way it would push your Abilify levels. If moringa slowed the enzyme, more drug could linger and you might notice more drowsiness, restlessness, or lightheadedness. If it sped things up, the medication could work less well and symptoms might creep back.

The good news is this is theoretical, based mostly on test-tube work, and a human study with a similar drug showed no real change. Food amounts of moringa are unlikely to matter. Before adding a daily moringa supplement, just check with your pharmacist or doctor.

Aripiprazole treats several mental health conditions. It is approved for schizophrenia, acute manic and mixed episodes of Bipolar I Disorder, and as an add-on to antidepressants for Major Depressive Disorder.

It is also used for irritability linked to autistic disorder and for Tourette's disorder — in both children and adults depending on the condition.
