Moringa and Ertugliflozin

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Minor

ANTIDIABETES DRUGS

Why this applies to Ertugliflozin

Ertugliflozin falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group Moringa interacts with.

Theoretically, moringa might have additive effects when used with antidiabetes drugs; however, research is conflicting.
Animal research shows that moringa can lower blood glucose levels. However, research in humans has not shown consistent blood glucose lowering effects.
Severity Minor Likelihood Possible Evidence B

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: moringa may have a mild blood-sugar-lowering effect of its own, and ertugliflozin (Steglatro) already lowers blood sugar by flushing extra glucose out through your urine. Stacked together, there's a chance they could push your numbers a little lower than expected. The catch is that this is mostly theoretical. Animal studies suggest moringa drops glucose, but human studies have been mixed and inconsistent, so this is a minor concern, not an alarm.

If you do use both, just keep an eye out for signs of low blood sugar like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, or feeling unusually tired, and check your readings as your doctor advises. Food amounts of moringa in a meal are far less likely to matter than concentrated capsules. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before adding a moringa supplement so they can help you watch your levels.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Ertugliflozin page

“Ertugliflozin (Steglatro) works by making your kidneys flush out extra sugar, and nearly all 256 supplements on this page pull on that same lever, so this is a list to approach carefully rather than casually. Most entries either add to the glucose-lowering effect and raise the risk of a low, or, like niacin, push blood sugar the other…”

About Moringa

What is Moringa?

  • Nutritional supplement
  • Blood sugar support
  • Cholesterol support
  • Inflammation
  • Skin conditions

Moringa is a nutrient-rich plant whose leaves are widely used as a food and supplement, especially in parts of the world where malnutrition is common. Early research hints at possible benefits for blood sugar, cholesterol, and inflammation, but the human evidence is limited and not strong enough to recommend it as a treatment. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using moringa, especially if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or taking medications.
