ORAL DRUGS
Why this applies to Dihydroxyaluminum Sodium Carbonate
Dihydroxyaluminum Sodium Carbonate falls under ORAL DRUGS — the group Guar Gum interacts with.
Clinical research shows that guar gum reduces or slows absorption of medications such as penicillin and metformin. To avoid changes in absorption, take guar gum 30-60 minutes after oral medications.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: guar gum is a thick, gel-forming fiber, and when you swallow it, it can coat your stomach and slow or block how well other things in there get absorbed. With Rolaids (dihydroxyaluminum sodium carbonate), an antacid you take to quickly neutralize stomach acid, that gel may get in the way and make it work a little less reliably for your heartburn or acid indigestion.
This isn't a dangerous combo, just a timing issue. The easy fix is spacing them out. If you use a concentrated guar gum supplement, take your antacid first and wait about 30 to 60 minutes before the fiber. Food-level amounts of guar gum are unlikely to matter. When in doubt, your pharmacist can help you sort out the timing.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Dihydroxyaluminum Sodium Carbonate page
“Rolaids (dihydroxyaluminum sodium carbonate) sits in plenty of medicine cabinets, yet its interaction list earns genuine caution rather than a shrug. Of 35 supplement and herbal ingredients on file, the lone major rating belongs to activated charcoal, which adsorbs many medications and can strip away their effect.”
