Guar gum forms a thick gel in your stomach and intestines, and that gel can grab onto a medication and slow how much of it gets absorbed. For glipizide, that could mean less of your dose actually makes it into your bloodstream, so your blood sugar may not drop as much as expected.

This isn't an emergency, but it can quietly work against your diabetes control. The simple fix most pharmacists suggest is spacing them out: take your glipizide first, then wait about 30 to 60 minutes before the guar gum. Food amounts of fiber are unlikely to be a big deal, but concentrated supplements are. Check with your doctor or pharmacist before combining them, and keep an eye on your sugar readings.

Glipizide tablets and glipizide extended-release tablets are both used as an add-on to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication of uncontrolled blood sugar).
