    “The HCG diet can cause edema, thromboembolism, ascites, and pleural effusion. In a case report, a 64-year-old female presented to the emergency room with a deep venous thrombosis and a pulmonary embolism after taking 20 drops of HCG sublingually twice daily for 2 weeks. The patient was treated with anticoagulants and started on chronic warfarin therapy.”

The HCG diet pairs a very low-calorie diet (often around 500 calories a day) with human chorionic gonadotropin, a pregnancy hormone, and claims to cause fast, targeted fat loss. There is no good scientific evidence that hCG helps with weight loss or hunger, and the FDA has not approved it for this use; any weight lost comes from the extreme calorie restriction, which can be dangerous. What Is Metoprolol Used For?

Brand names: Lopressor, Toprol XL

Metoprolol is used to treat several heart and blood pressure conditions. Metoprolol succinate extended-release tablets (including Toprol-XL) are approved for high blood pressure, angina pectoris (chest pain from the heart), and heart failure. Metoprolol tartrate tablets (including Lopressor) are approved for high blood pressure, angina, and — when used alongside intravenous metoprolol — to reduce the risk of cardiovascular death after a definite or suspected heart attack.

Metoprolol tartrate injection (intravenous form) is used in hemodynamically stable patients with a definite or suspected acute heart attack to reduce cardiovascular death, and is followed by oral metoprolol therapy. Lowering blood pressure with metoprolol reduces the risk of strokes and heart attacks.
