Flibanserin falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Hu Zhang interacts with.

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP2C19 enzyme. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the gist for Addyi (flibanserin). Your liver uses an enzyme called CYP2C19 to help break this medicine down. The resveratrol in Hu Zhang may slow that same enzyme, at least in lab studies. If that happens in the body, flibanserin could clear out more slowly and build up a bit higher than usual.

Flibanserin isn't a prodrug, so more of it means stronger effects and more side effects, things like low blood pressure, dizziness, sleepiness, and fainting. That's a real concern since this drug already carries warnings about fainting, especially if you've had alcohol. To be clear, this is only a theoretical interaction that hasn't been seen in people yet, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, please run it by your pharmacist or doctor before combining them.

Theoretically, hu zhang might increase levels of drugs metabolized by CYP3A4.
Hu zhang contains the constituent resveratrol. In vitro research shows that resveratrol might inhibit the CYP3A4 enzyme. However, a clinical study in adults with NAFLD found that adding resveratrol 3000 mg daily for 8 weeks did not necessitate dose adjustments to any established medications metabolized by CYP3A4.

Here's the gist for Addyi (flibanserin). Your body clears this medication mostly through a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Hu Zhang contains resveratrol, which in lab studies appears to slow that same enzyme down a bit. In theory, that could let flibanserin build up in your system, and since it's an active drug (not a prodrug that needs switching on), more of it means a stronger effect.

With flibanserin, the things to watch for would be dizziness, drowsiness, fainting, and low blood pressure, which can get worse if levels climb. That said, this is only a theoretical concern from test-tube data, and one human study using high-dose resveratrol didn't require any medication changes. Still, flibanserin already carries warnings about fainting, so I'd loop in your pharmacist or doctor before combining the two.

What Is Flibanserin Used For?

Brand name: Addyi

Addyi is approved to treat acquired, generalized hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) — a condition where low sexual desire causes significant distress or relationship difficulty — in women under 65. "Acquired" means the low desire developed after a period of normal desire; "generalized" means it happens regardless of the situation or partner.

Addyi is not intended for use in men, and it is not a sexual performance enhancer. It is also not meant for HSDD that is caused by a medical condition, a psychiatric condition, relationship problems, or another medication.
