Oxybutynin falls under ANTICHOLINERGIC DRUGS — the group Iboga interacts with.

Theoretically, iboga might decrease the effectiveness of anticholinergic drugs.
In vitro research shows that iboga can inhibit acetylcholinesterase and might increase acetylcholine levels. However, the constituent ibogaine does not appear to have this effect.

Here is the idea behind this one. Oxybutynin works by blocking acetylcholine, the chemical signal that tells your bladder muscle to squeeze. In lab dish studies, Iboga seemed to do the opposite, raising acetylcholine levels by slowing the enzyme that breaks it down. If that happened in the body, it could push against what your oxybutynin is trying to do, so your overactive bladder symptoms (urgency, frequency, leaking) might not be controlled as well.

I want to be honest about how thin this evidence is. It comes only from test tube research, and ibogaine, the main active compound in Iboga, did not show that effect. Beyond all this, Iboga itself is genuinely dangerous and illegal here. Please talk with your pharmacist or doctor before combining anything with your bladder medication.

It carries serious safety risks, including dangerous heart rhythm changes and deaths, and ibogaine is illegal in the United States and many other countries. We do not recommend its use outside of tightly controlled research settings.

About Oxybutynin

What Is Oxybutynin Used For?

Brand names: Ditropan, Ditropan XL, Oxybutynin, Oxytrol, Anturol, Gelnique

Oxybutynin treats overactive bladder — including the sudden urge to urinate, leaking before you can reach the bathroom (urge incontinence), and going too frequently. Extended-release tablets (Oxybutynin Chloride) and immediate-release tablets and oral solution (Oxybutynin Chloride) are used for these symptoms. Oxytrol is approved for overactive bladder in men; Oxytrol for Women is approved for overactive bladder in women aged 18 and older.

Extended-release tablets (Oxybutynin Chloride) are also approved for children 6 years and older who have bladder overactivity caused by a neurological condition, such as spina bifida. Immediate-release tablets and oral solution (Oxybutynin Chloride) are indicated for bladder instability symptoms — including urgency, frequency, urinary leakage, and painful urination — in patients with neurogenic bladder conditions.
