Indian Long Pepper and Ibuprofen

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.

Moderate

ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS

Why this applies to Ibuprofen

Ibuprofen falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Indian Long Pepper interacts with.

Theoretically, Indian long pepper might increase the risk of bleeding when taken with anticoagulant/antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that Indian long pepper extract inhibits platelet aggregation.
Severity Moderate Likelihood Possible Evidence D

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.

Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the thing to know about pairing Indian long pepper with ibuprofen. Ibuprofen already nudges your blood toward clotting a little slower, and it can irritate the stomach lining too. The concern on file is that long pepper might add to that bleeding tendency, since lab studies hint it can make platelets (the cells that help your blood clot) less sticky.

I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes only from test-tube research, not from people, so it's more of a theoretical caution than a proven problem. A pinch in cooking is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated supplement doses taken regularly are where I'd pay more attention, especially if you notice easy bruising, nosebleeds, or stomach upset. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up before combining them.
