Dr. Brian Staiger, PharmD, BCPS
Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the simple version: insulin lowers your blood sugar, and Indian long pepper (specifically its piperine) might nudge it down a little too. Stack those two together and the worry is your sugar could drop too low. I want to be honest though, this concern comes mainly from animal studies, so it's more of a theoretical caution than something we see proven in people.

If you do take pippali regularly, watch for the usual low blood sugar signs with insulin: shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a racing heart, confusion, or sudden hunger. Keep checking your sugars like normal and look for any new downward trend. Please don't change your insulin dose on your own. Just give your pharmacist or doctor a heads-up so they can keep an eye on things with you.
