Jamaican Dogwood + Fingolimod
Fingolimod brand names: Gilenya, Tascenso ODT.
We found no known interaction between Jamaican Dogwood and Fingolimod in our sources. Absence of a documented interaction is not the same as proven safety, and does not guarantee one does not exist. Do not start, stop, or change a medication or supplement based on this page; confirm with your pharmacist or doctor first.
Jamaican Dogwood and Fingolimod
We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.
No Known Interaction Found
We did not find a documented interaction between Fingolimod and Jamaican Dogwood in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.
If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.
Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.
Jamaican Dogwood safety at a glance
Pregnancy & breastfeeding ratings are from Natural Medicines (Therapeutic Research Center) — the full detail is in the Special populations card below. Safety guidance is general; always confirm with your pharmacist or doctor for your situation.
Why No Interaction Is Listed for Fingolimod
Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Fingolimod is filed under 3 classifications — immunosuppressants, hepatotoxic drugs, oral drugs. Jamaican Dogwood has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being cns depressants (moderate) — and none of Fingolimod’s classifications are among them.
Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Fingolimod page
“Fingolimod (Gilenya, Tascenso ODT) reins in the immune system to keep multiple sclerosis quiet, and its supplement file calls for genuine wariness. Half of the entries are herbs and extracts thought to stimulate immunity, which could blunt the drug's whole purpose.”

About Jamaican Dogwood
What is Jamaican Dogwood?
- Insomnia and sleep trouble
- Nerve pain
- Anxiety and tension
- Menstrual cramps
- Muscle pain and spasms
- Migraine and headaches
Jamaican dogwood is a tree bark traditionally used to promote sleep and ease pain, but high-quality human studies are lacking. It can be toxic in larger amounts and should be used cautiously, if at all, and never during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Talk to a pharmacist or doctor before trying it.
Piscidia piscipula · Fabaceae · Bark of the root and stem · Dried bark, tinctures, liquid extracts, capsules, teas
An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Jamaican Dogwood is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Jamaican Dogwood record says about it on its own.
Jamaican Dogwood: dosing
There is no well-established, standardized dose for Jamaican dogwood. Products vary widely in strength, and the bark's natural compounds can be potent, so there is no safe "recommended" amount we can confidently give.If you choose to use a product, follow the directions on the label exactly and do not exceed them. It is best to start any new supplement only after checking with a pharmacist or doctor, who can help you weigh the risks. Avoid using it long-term or in high amounts.

About Fingolimod
What Is Fingolimod Used For?
Brand names: Gilenya, Tascenso ODT
Fingolimod — available as capsules (Fingolimod, Fingolimod Hydrochloride, and Gilenya) and as an orally disintegrating tablet (Tascenso ODT) — is approved for the treatment of relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) in patients 10 years of age and older. This includes clinically isolated syndrome (a first MS episode), relapsing-remitting MS (the most common type with flare-ups and periods of stability), and active secondary progressive MS (a later stage where disability gradually worsens but relapses still occur).
All supported formulations share these same approved uses. The goal of treatment is to reduce the frequency of relapses and slow disease activity.
Most-Reported Side Effects for Fingolimod
From FAERS, the FDA’s public side-effect reporting system (86,658 reports, all brands). Reports are voluntary and are not proof the drug caused the effect.
