ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Aspirin, Oxycodone
Aspirin, Oxycodone falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Japanese Persimmon interacts with.
Some anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs include aspirin, clopidogrel (Plavix), dalteparin (Fragmin), enoxaparin (Lovenox), heparin, indomethacin (Indocin), ticlopidine (Ticlid), warfarin (Coumadin), and others.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Percodan combines two medicines: aspirin, which thins the blood by quieting platelets, and oxycodone, an opioid for pain. The interaction here is really about the aspirin part. There's a thought that compounds in Japanese persimmon leaf extracts may have a mild blood-thinning effect of their own. Stack that on top of aspirin and, in theory, you could see a bit more bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or stomach upset.
I want to be honest about how soft this evidence is. It comes from lab dishes, not people, so it's a theoretical concern. Eating persimmon fruit as food is very unlikely to matter. Concentrated leaf extracts are the part to be cautious with. If you use those, just run it by your pharmacist or doctor first.
