ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS
Why this applies to Moxonidine
Moxonidine falls under ANTIHYPERTENSIVE DRUGS — the group Japanese Persimmon interacts with.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: moxonidine is a blood pressure medicine that calms signals in your brain telling your blood vessels to tighten. Japanese persimmon, especially as a concentrated supplement or leaf extract, may have its own mild blood-pressure-lowering effect. Stack the two together and your blood pressure could dip a little lower than expected.
If that happens, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, tired, or get a headache, especially when you stand up quickly. The good news is this is mostly theoretical, and simply enjoying persimmon as a normal piece of fruit is very unlikely to cause a problem. Concentrated supplements are the bigger question. Before starting any persimmon product, check with your pharmacist or doctor so they can keep an eye on your readings.
