Job's Tears + Guaifenesin
Guaifenesin brand names: Robitussin, Humibid LA, Amibid LA, Numobid, Muco-Fen 800, and others.
Job's Tears has a moderate interaction with Guaifenesin. Animal research suggests that Job's tears might enhance absorption of dextromethorphan in the small intestine.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
DEXTROMETHORPHAN (Robitussin DM, others)
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the honest picture for guaifenesin (Robitussin, Mucinex, and similar): the interaction we have on file actually involves dextromethorphan, a cough medicine often paired with guaifenesin in combination products. In animal studies, an extract of Job's Tears bran appeared to boost how much dextromethorphan got absorbed from the gut. That's why guaifenesin gets lumped into the same category.
For guaifenesin itself, this is really a non-issue. Guaifenesin simply loosens mucus so you can cough it up, and it isn't activated or heavily processed by the liver enzymes involved here. Even if Job's Tears nudged absorption a little, guaifenesin has a very wide safety margin and mild effects at most (occasional nausea or upset stomach). The evidence is also weak, based on lab and animal work, not people. Food amounts of Job's Tears are nothing to worry about. If you take a concentrated supplement and have questions, check with your pharmacist.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Guaifenesin page
“Guaifenesin (Robitussin, Humibid LA) loosens chest mucus, and by itself it is a mild medicine, but two of the 26 supplements on this list rate major, so those two deserve your attention first. Activated charcoal can bind the drug in your gut and blunt what it does, and grapefruit raises blood levels of dextromethorphan, the cough suppr…”

About Job's Tears
What is Job's Tears?
- Digestive support
- Skin health and smoothness
- Mild swelling or water retention
- General nourishing food/tonic
- Joint discomfort (traditional use)
Job's Tears is a grain-like seed long used as a food and in traditional medicine, especially in East Asia. While it is generally safe as a food and is being studied for possible effects on metabolism, inflammation, and immunity, strong human evidence for its health claims is limited. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements, especially during pregnancy.
