What Is Linaclotide Used For?

Brand name: Linzess

Linzess (linaclotide) is used to treat irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) in adults and children 7 years of age and older, and chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in adults. It is also approved for functional constipation (FC) in children 2 years of age and older.

IBS-C causes belly pain along with constipation. CIC and FC are ongoing constipation without a clear underlying cause. Linzess addresses both the constipation and, in IBS-C, the associated abdominal discomfort.
