What Is Miglustat Used For?

Brand names: Zavesca, Opfolda

Miglustat, Yargesa, and Zavesca are each approved as monotherapy — meaning used alone, without other treatments — for adults with mild to moderate type 1 Gaucher disease who cannot receive enzyme replacement therapy (for example, due to an allergy, hypersensitivity reaction, or poor vein access).

Opfolda, a separate brand of miglustat, is used differently: it is approved only in combination with Pombiliti (cipaglucosidase alfa-atga) for adults with late-onset Pompe disease (a deficiency of the enzyme GAA) who weigh at least 40 kg and are not improving on their current enzyme replacement therapy.
