About Pegfilgrastim Injection

What Is Pegfilgrastim Injection Used For?

Brand name: Neulasta

Pegfilgrastim injection is used in adults and children (from newborns and older) with non-myeloid cancers (cancers that do not start in blood-forming cells) who are receiving myelosuppressive chemotherapy — drugs that can severely lower white blood cell counts. It works to lower the risk of febrile neutropenia (a dangerous drop in infection-fighting white blood cells that causes fever), which can lead to serious infections.

It is also used to improve survival in people who have been acutely exposed to myelosuppressive doses of radiation — doses high enough to damage the bone marrow. Pegfilgrastim is not approved to mobilize stem cells for bone marrow transplantation.
