Escitalopram falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Kratom interacts with.

Theoretically, taking kratom in combination with serotonergic drugs may increase levels of serotonin, increasing the risk of serotonin syndrome.
A 63-year-old male presented with possible serotonin syndrome after taking an unknown dose of kratom for up to 3 months along with serotonergic prescription medications bupropion, buspirone, desvenlafaxine, trazodone, and ziprasidone. It was hypothesized that kratom inhibited the cytochrome P450 3A4-, 2C9-, 2D6-, and 1A2-mediated metabolism of several of these serotonergic medications, consequently increasing systemic exposure to serotonin.

Here's the concern with pairing kratom and your Lexapro. Escitalopram already raises serotonin in the brain, which is how it eases depression and anxiety. Kratom acts on some of the same brain pathways, so stacking the two could push serotonin too high. That can lead to a rare but serious problem called serotonin syndrome, with symptoms like agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shivering, muscle twitching, or confusion.

To be honest, the evidence here is thin. It comes mainly from a single case report involving several medications, so we can't be sure how often this actually happens. Still, kratom isn't regulated or proven safe, so I'd treat this seriously. Please don't change anything on your own. Loop in your doctor or pharmacist before mixing these.

What Is Escitalopram Used For?

Brand name: Lexapro

Escitalopram treats major depressive disorder (MDD) in adults and in adolescents 12 years of age and older. It also treats generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) in adults.

Lexapro (escitalopram) tablets are additionally approved to treat generalized anxiety disorder in pediatric patients 7 years of age and older. Escitalopram Capsules are indicated for MDD and GAD in adults younger than 65 years of age, and for MDD in pediatric patients 12 years and older — the capsule form is not indicated for patients 65 and older.
