Gliclazide falls under CYTOCHROME P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) SUBSTRATES — the group Kratom interacts with.

Theoretically, kratom might increase the levels of drugs metabolized by CYP2C19.
In vitro research shows that kratom extract weakly inhibits CYP2C19 enzyme activity.

Here's the gist for gliclazide, the diabetes pill that lowers your blood sugar by nudging your pancreas to release more insulin. Your liver clears gliclazide partly using an enzyme called CYP2C19. In lab dish studies, kratom appears to weakly block that same enzyme. The thought is that if gliclazide is cleared a little slower, slightly more could hang around and push your blood sugar lower than expected.

In real life, this is only a theoretical concern, and the effect looks mild. Still, low blood sugar matters: watch for shakiness, sweating, confusion, or feeling faint. Kratom on its own carries serious risks too. Please loop in your pharmacist or doctor before mixing the two, and don't change your gliclazide on your own.
