Kratom + Selegiline
Selegiline brand names: Carbex, Eldepryl, Emsam, Zelapar.
Kratom has a moderate interaction with Selegiline. Theoretically, taking kratom in combination with serotonergic drugs may increase levels of serotonin, increasing the risk of serotonin syndrome.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
SEROTONERGIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Selegiline
Selegiline falls under SEROTONERGIC DRUGS — the group Kratom interacts with.
A 63-year-old male presented with possible serotonin syndrome after taking an unknown dose of kratom for up to 3 months along with serotonergic prescription medications bupropion, buspirone, desvenlafaxine, trazodone, and ziprasidone. It was hypothesized that kratom inhibited the cytochrome P450 3A4-, 2C9-, 2D6-, and 1A2-mediated metabolism of several of these serotonergic medications, consequently increasing systemic exposure to serotonin.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the thing with selegiline: it raises certain brain chemicals, including serotonin, especially at higher doses. Kratom can also nudge serotonin up. Put the two together and you raise the worry for serotonin syndrome, a reaction that can cause agitation, a racing heart, sweating, shaking, muscle stiffness, and in serious cases dangerously high body temperature. Because selegiline affects monoamine oxidase, combining it with substances that act on the brain like kratom is a genuine concern, not just a footnote.
To be fair, this is mostly theoretical and based on a single case report, so the evidence is thin. Still, given how selegiline works, I'd play it safe. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist before mixing these.

Every interaction above is graded three ways — here’s the key to each label.
Clinically significant. Avoid the combination, or use only under close professional supervision.
Usually worth avoiding or managing — may need monitoring, a dose change, or timing apart.
Generally not serious. Be aware of it and mention it to your pharmacist.
- LikelyWell-controlled human studies have demonstrated the likely existence of this interaction.
- ProbableInteraction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports.
- PossibleInteraction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
- UnlikelyInteraction has been demonstrated in animal or in lab research but has been shown not to occur in humans.

About Kratom
What is Kratom?
- Pain relief
- Opioid withdrawal symptoms
- Anxiety and stress
- Low energy or fatigue
- Mood enhancement
Kratom is a Southeast Asian plant whose leaves act on the brain's opioid receptors and can produce both stimulant-like and opioid-like effects. About Selegiline
What Is Selegiline Used For?
Brand names: Carbex, Eldepryl, Emsam, Zelapar
Selegiline is used for two different conditions, depending on the product.
- Selegiline hydrochloride tablets and capsules, and Zelapar (orally disintegrating tablet), are add-on treatments for Parkinson’s disease in people taking levodopa/carbidopa whose response to it has gotten worse.
- Emsam (skin patch) treats major depressive disorder in adults.
For Parkinson’s disease, there is no evidence from controlled studies that selegiline helps without levodopa.

Selegiline Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Selegiline as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with Kratom — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
