Anagrelide falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group L-arginine interacts with.

Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine with anticoagulant and antiplatelet drugs might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding.
Preliminary research suggests that L-arginine infusions reduce platelet aggregation in humans. The clinical significance of this effect is unclear.

Here's the thinking behind this pairing. Your anagrelide is already working to lower how many platelets your body makes, which makes it harder for your blood to clot. L-arginine, on its own, may make platelets a little less sticky too, likely through the nitric oxide it produces. Stack those two effects and, in theory, you could tip a bit toward easier bruising or bleeding.

I want to be honest about the strength of this, though. It's theoretical, based mostly on lab and infusion studies, and the real-world significance just isn't clear. Still, keep an eye out for things like unusual bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums, and check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding an L-arginine supplement.

What Is Anagrelide Used For?

Brand name: Agrylin

Anagrelide — sold as Agrylin and as generic anagrelide capsules — is used to treat thrombocythemia secondary to myeloproliferative neoplasms. That means it's prescribed when a bone marrow disorder causes the body to produce too many platelets, raising the risk of dangerous blood clots.

By bringing platelet counts down to a safer range, anagrelide also helps reduce related symptoms, including bleeding and clotting events (thrombo-hemorrhagic events).
