L-arginine + Glipizide
Glipizide brand names: Glucotrol, Glucotrol XL.
L-arginine has a moderate interaction with Glipizide. Theoretically, concomitant use of L-arginine might have additive effects with antidiabetes drugs.

Here is the interaction we found between these two, with the evidence behind it.
ANTIDIABETES DRUGS
Why this applies to Glipizide
Glipizide falls under ANTIDIABETES DRUGS — the group L-arginine interacts with.
Preliminary clinical research shows that L-arginine decreases blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the simple version: glipizide already lowers your blood sugar by nudging your pancreas to release more insulin. Some early research suggests L-arginine can also bring blood sugar down a bit on its own. Put the two together and the effects may stack, so your sugar could drop lower than you expect.
If that happens, you might feel signs of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), things like shakiness, sweating, dizziness, a racing heart, hunger, or confusion. This is a theoretical concern based mostly on how the two work, not strong proof, so please don't be alarmed or stop anything on your own. If you'd like to use L-arginine, check with your pharmacist or doctor first and keep an eye on your home blood sugar readings.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Glipizide page
“Glipizide (Glucotrol, Glucotrol XL) lowers blood sugar by prompting the pancreas to release more insulin, and that same power is why I read its supplement list with real seriousness. Of the 307 ingredients on file, 239 also act on blood glucose, so stacking them can drive sugar dangerously low.”

About L-arginine
What is L-arginine?
- High blood pressure
- Erectile dysfunction
- Athletic performance
- Chest pain (angina)
- Improving blood flow
L-arginine is an amino acid that the body uses to make nitric oxide, a substance that helps blood vessels relax and widen. It is popularly used for blood pressure, erectile dysfunction, and exercise, but the evidence is mixed and stronger for some uses than others. It is generally well tolerated in healthy adults, but talk with a pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially if you have heart problems or take other medicines.
About Glipizide
What Is Glipizide Used For?
Brand names: Glucotrol, Glucotrol XL
Glipizide tablets and glipizide extended-release tablets are both used as an add-on to diet and exercise to improve blood sugar (glucose) control in adults with type 2 diabetes. It is not used for type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis (a serious complication of uncontrolled blood sugar).

Glipizide Is Linked to Lower Levels of One Nutrient
Natural Medicines records Glipizide as a medicine that can lower these. This is not an interaction with L-arginine — it is a separate effect of the medicine, and it is a reason some people are advised to supplement rather than to avoid one:
