Dirithromycin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Lactiplantibacillus Plantarum interacts with.

Theoretically, taking Lactiplantibacillus plantarum with antibiotic drugs might decrease the effectiveness of L. plantarum.
L. plantarum preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. plantarum preparations by at least two hours.

Here's the thing to keep in mind with Dirithromycin and a probiotic like L. plantarum. Dirithromycin is an antibiotic, and antibiotics don't pick and choose perfectly. While it's working to clear out the bacteria making you sick, it can also kill off a good chunk of the live, friendly bacteria in your probiotic. So the worry here isn't that your antibiotic becomes dangerous, it's that you may be wasting your probiotic.

The simple fix pharmacists usually suggest is spacing them out. Take your probiotic about two hours apart from your Dirithromycin dose so more of those helpful organisms survive. This is mostly a theory based on how the two work, not a serious safety risk, but check with your pharmacist if you have questions.
