ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Cyclacillin
Cyclacillin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Lactobacillus Johnsonii interacts with.
Lactobacillus johnsonii preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. johnsonii preparations by at least two hours.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: Cyclacillin is a penicillin-type antibiotic, and its whole job is to kill bacteria. The catch is that your probiotic, Lactobacillus johnsonii, is itself a live, helpful bacterium. If you swallow them at the same time, the antibiotic can wipe out a good chunk of those probiotic organisms before they ever do anything useful. So this isn't about your antibiotic getting weaker or stronger, it's about the probiotic losing its punch.
The fix is easy. Just space them out, ideally by at least two hours. Your Cyclacillin will still treat your infection normally. This concern is theoretical and based on how things work in the lab, so don't worry, but do check with your pharmacist if you have questions about timing.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Cyclacillin page
“The pairing I would flag first for anyone on cyclacillin (Cyclapen-W) is activated charcoal, the sole major-rated entry among the 44 supplements and herbs on file. Charcoal binds drugs in the gut, so it can pull down how much of this penicillin-class antibiotic reaches your blood, and an underdosed antibiotic may leave the infection un…”
