ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS
Why this applies to Norfloxacin
Norfloxacin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Lactobacillus Johnsonii interacts with.
Lactobacillus johnsonii preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. johnsonii preparations by at least two hours.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the simple version: Norfloxacin is an antibiotic, and its whole job is to kill bacteria. Since Lactobacillus johnsonii is a live, beneficial bacterium, taking the two at the same time means the norfloxacin can wipe out a good chunk of the probiotic before it ever gets to work. So the concern here isn't that the probiotic harms your antibiotic or causes side effects. It's that you may simply waste your probiotic.
The good news is the fix is easy. Most pharmacists suggest spacing them out by at least two hours so each one has a fair shot. Keep taking your norfloxacin exactly as prescribed for your infection. This is a theoretical interaction based on how these things work, so check with your pharmacist about the best timing for you.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Norfloxacin page
“The major entries on this page are the ones to understand first. With norfloxacin, a fluoroquinolone antibiotic usually prescribed for urinary tract infections, the biggest risks don't add side effects, they stop the drug from working.”
