Amitriptyline, Chlordiazepoxide falls under BENZODIAZEPINES — the group Lemon Verbena interacts with.
Animal research shows that lemon verbena has additive sedative effects in mice that also received diazepam.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Limbitrol DS combines amitriptyline (a sedating tricyclic antidepressant) with chlordiazepoxide (a benzodiazepine). Both of these already tend to make people drowsy and relaxed. The concern here is simple addition: lemon verbena seems to have mild calming, sedative-like activity of its own, so stacking it on top could leave you feeling extra sleepy, foggy, dizzy, or slow to react. In theory, very deep sedation could affect breathing, though that is unlikely from tea-strength amounts.
I want to be honest that this is theoretical and based only on animal research where lemon verbena added to diazepam's sedation in mice, not human studies. An occasional cup of tea is probably fine, but concentrated supplements are a bigger unknown. Please check with your pharmacist or doctor before adding one.
