Here's the gist for Tussionex (hydrocodone with chlorpheniramine) and lime. This isn't about lime changing how the medicine works in your body or making the cough syrup itself stronger or weaker. Instead, it's about your skin. Lime oil contains compounds that can make skin more sensitive to sunlight, and certain medicines, including some antihistamines like chlorpheniramine, may do the same. Put them together and you could, in theory, sunburn a little more easily.
Honestly, this is a weak, theory-based concern drawn from lab work, not real patient reports, and it mostly applies to concentrated lime essential oil on the skin, not a squeeze of lime in your food or drink. If you're using lime oil topically and spending time in the sun, wear sunscreen and ask your pharmacist if you have questions.

CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES

Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's the gist with Tussionex (hydrocodone plus chlorpheniramine). Your body uses an enzyme called CYP3A4 to help process hydrocodone. Some lab and animal studies suggest plant compounds in lime juice can slow that enzyme down a bit. If it slows, hydrocodone could linger longer, which in theory might mean more of its usual effects: drowsiness, dizziness, constipation, or slowed breathing.
That said, this is weak evidence based on rats given high doses of lime juice, not people. A squeeze of lime in your food or drink is very unlikely to cause trouble. I'd only be cautious with concentrated lime supplements or large amounts. If you use those, please check with your pharmacist or doctor first, especially since this combo already makes many people sleepy.
