Aliskiren falls under CYTOCHROME P450 3A4 (CYP3A4) SUBSTRATES — the group Lime interacts with.

Animal research shows that phenolics in lime juice inhibit cytochrome P450 3A4. This has been demonstrated in rats treated with sildenafil, a CYP3A4 substrate, and high doses of lime juice.

Here's the simple version: lime carries plant compounds that, in animal studies, slowed down a liver enzyme called CYP3A4. Aliskiren (Tekturna) is handled in part by that same enzyme, and it's an active drug as taken (not a prodrug). So if that enzyme gets blocked, aliskiren could clear out more slowly and build up a bit, which might nudge its effect stronger. With a blood pressure pill, that could mean more lightheadedness, dizziness when standing up, or blood pressure dropping lower than intended.

That said, this is based only on rat research using high doses of lime juice, so it's far from proven in people. A squeeze of lime on your food is very unlikely to matter. If you're using concentrated lime products, just check with your pharmacist or doctor first.

Aliskiren and Tekturna tablets are both approved to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults and in children who are at least 6 years old and weigh 50 kg (about 110 lbs) or more. Lowering high blood pressure reduces the risk of serious events like strokes and heart attacks.

Managing blood pressure is usually part of a broader plan that may also include diet changes, exercise, cholesterol control, and other medications. Many people need more than one blood pressure drug to reach their goal.
