Why this applies to Oxacillin
Oxacillin falls under ANTIBIOTIC DRUGS — the group Limosilactobacillus Reuteri interacts with.
L. reuteri preparations usually contain live and active organisms. Therefore, simultaneously taking antibiotics might kill a significant number of the organisms. Tell patients to separate administration of antibiotics and L. reuteri preparations by at least two hours.
Interaction has not been documented in well-controlled studies, however, the interaction has been demonstrated in some small human studies or in controlled animal studies in conjunction with multiple case reports..
Here's the thing to keep in mind: oxacillin is a penicillin antibiotic, and its whole job is to kill bacteria. The catch is that the probiotic Limosilactobacillus reuteri is itself a live, friendly bacterium. So if you take the two at the same time, the antibiotic may wipe out a good chunk of those probiotic organisms before they can do their work. This doesn't make your oxacillin weaker or cause new side effects, it just means the probiotic may not give you much benefit.
The good news is the fix is simple. Spacing them out by at least two hours usually solves it. This is a theoretical concern based on how antibiotics work, not a dangerous combination, but check with your pharmacist or doctor on the best timing for you.

Limosilactobacillus reuteri (formerly Lactobacillus reuteri) is a probiotic bacterium found in the human gut and certain fermented foods. It has the most supportive evidence for reducing crying in breastfed infants with colic and for some types of diarrhea, while many other uses remain unproven. It is generally well tolerated in healthy people, but people who are very ill or immunocompromised should talk to a doctor first.
About Oxacillin Injection
What Is Oxacillin Injection Used For?
Brand names: Prostaphlin, Bactocill
Oxacillin Injection is used to treat infections caused by staphylococci (a type of bacteria) that produce an enzyme called penicillinase — meaning they are resistant to regular penicillin. It is specifically chosen when lab tests confirm, or strongly suggest, this type of resistant staph is the cause.
It should not be used for infections caused by bacteria that are still susceptible to regular penicillin G. If lab results show the infection is caused by something other than a resistant staph, treatment with oxacillin should be stopped and a more appropriate antibiotic used.
