Selumetinib Sulfate falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Magnolia interacts with.

Theoretically, magnolia might have additive effects and increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulant or antiplatelet drugs.
In vitro research shows that the chemicals magnolol and honokiol, isolated from magnolia bark, inhibit platelet aggregation that is experimentally induced by collagen and arachidonic acid. However, they do not inhibit platelet aggregation that is induced by adenosine diphosphate, platelet-activating factor, or thrombin. This interaction has not been reported in humans.

Here's the honest picture with magnolia and Koselugo (selumetinib). The interaction on file is about bleeding risk, and it comes from lab dish studies where magnolia compounds (magnolol and honokiol) made platelets a little less sticky. That's the same reason it gets flagged alongside blood thinners. The catch is that this has never actually been reported in people, so it stays in the theoretical bucket.

Selumetinib itself can already cause some bleeding-related issues in certain patients, so layering on something that might nudge platelets in the same direction is worth a conversation. Watch for things like easy bruising, nosebleeds, or bleeding gums. Please don't start or stop anything on your own. Since this drug treats NF1 tumors in kids, loop in your child's oncology team or pharmacist before adding magnolia.

What Is Selumetinib Used For?

Brand name: Koselugo

Koselugo (selumetinib) is approved for adults and children 1 year of age and older who have neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) — a genetic condition that causes tumors to grow on nerve tissue — when they also have symptomatic, inoperable plexiform neurofibromas (large, deep nerve tumors that cannot be surgically removed and are causing problems).

Both the Koselugo capsule and Koselugo oral granule formulations are approved for this use. The oral granule form is intended for patients who have difficulty swallowing whole capsules.
