Maqui and Cabergoline

We checked these two against our interaction database. Here is what we found.

No Known Interaction Found

We did not find a documented interaction between Cabergoline and Maqui in our sources. This does not guarantee that the combination is completely free of risk — there is often limited research on supplements and herbal products, especially around drug interactions.

If you decide to take both, the practical routine is simple: add one new thing at a time and note the date you started it. If the combination is going to disagree with you, it usually shows in the first days to a couple of weeks — and a start date turns “I’ve been feeling off” into something a pharmacist can actually work with. Do not stop a prescribed medicine on your own.

Always talk with your pharmacist or doctor before making changes to your medications or supplements, particularly if you take several medications or have an ongoing health condition.

How we checked

Why No Interaction Is Listed for Cabergoline

Interactions in our licensed database are recorded against drug classes, not just single drug names. Cabergoline is filed under a single classification — oral drugs. Maqui has documented interactions with 1 drug class — the most serious being antidiabetes drugs (minor) — and none of Cabergoline’s classifications are among them.

Classification data comes from our licensed Natural Medicines dataset. A medication can belong to classes beyond those recorded there, so this describes how the check was run — it is not a safety guarantee.

What Cabergoline’s Own FDA Label Lists

This is not an interaction — none of it involves Maqui. These are the most notable effects listed in the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of Cabergoline’s own FDA label, for the medication by itself. Knowing the drug’s own list makes it easier to work out the likely cause if something new turns up while you take both. 7 of them are worth acting on rather than waiting out — marked below.

  • Bleeding in the gut Worth acting on
  • Hallucinations Worth acting on
  • Heart failure Worth acting on
  • Fainting Worth acting on
  • Confusion Worth acting on
  • Low mood Worth acting on
  • Bleeding or bruising Worth acting on
  • A change in sex drive
  • Breast tenderness
  • Acne

Showing the 10 most notable of 38 label-listed effects — ranked by how unusual each one is across medicines generally, with serious effects weighted up.

From the ADVERSE REACTIONS section of the FDA label for Cabergoline. Read the label on DailyMed › Where a percentage is shown, it is the share of 4,839 voluntary FDA FAERS reports for Cabergoline that mention that effect — a reporting proportion, not an incidence rate and not evidence the drug caused it. Maqui’s licensed record lists no adverse effects our clinical vocabulary could match, so there is no Maqui side to compare — that is a limit of the record, not a statement that Maqui has no side effects.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Cabergoline page

“Cabergoline (Dostinex) works at unusually small doses, often a fraction of a milligram once or twice a week, so anything that keeps part of a tablet from being absorbed can quietly undo prolactin control. That is what the 17 supplements on this list do, and it deserves careful handling.”

About Maqui

What is Maqui?

  • Antioxidant support
  • Blood sugar support
  • Eye health and dry eye
  • Anti-inflammatory support
  • Heart health

Maqui is a dark purple berry from Chile that is very rich in antioxidant plant pigments called anthocyanins. Early research suggests it may help with things like blood sugar, dry eye, and inflammation, but the human evidence is still limited and far from proven. It is generally well tolerated as a food, but talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using concentrated supplements.

Aristotelia chilensis · Elaeocarpaceae · Berries (fruit); leaves are used traditionally · Capsules, powder, juice, extracts, dried berries

An interaction check asks whether these two react with each other — it does not ask whether Maqui is a good idea for someone in your situation. Here is what our Maqui record says about it on its own.

Maqui: dosing

There is no official or well-established dose for maqui. Doses used in research have varied widely depending on whether the product was a juice, powder, or standardized extract, so it is hard to recommend a single amount. The best approach is to follow the directions on the product label and not exceed them.

About Cabergoline

What Is Cabergoline Used For?

Brand name: Dostinex

Cabergoline tablets are used in adults to treat hyperprolactinemic disorders — conditions where the body produces too much prolactin, a hormone made by the pituitary gland. This excess prolactin can cause irregular periods, unwanted breast milk production, and fertility problems.

The cause may be idiopathic (no clear reason found) or due to a pituitary adenoma (a noncancerous tumor on the pituitary gland). Cabergoline is not approved to stop breast milk production after childbirth, and should not be used for that purpose.
