ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS
Why this applies to Iloprost
Iloprost falls under ANTICOAGULANT/ANTIPLATELET DRUGS — the group Maral Root interacts with.
Interaction has been documented in animal or in lab research, or the interaction has been documented in humans but is limited to case reports or conflicting clinical research exists.
Here's something a lot of folks don't realize about iloprost (Ventavis): besides relaxing the blood vessels in your lungs, it also makes your platelets a little less sticky, so it can mildly thin the blood on its own. Maral Root has shown in lab studies (test tube only, not in people) that it may also reduce platelet clumping. Stack the two together and you could, in theory, raise the risk of bleeding or bruising.
What might that look like? Easier bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums, or cuts that take longer to stop. To be fair, this is a theoretical concern based on how these work, not proven in humans, so I don't want to alarm you. Still, with a serious condition like PAH, it's worth a quick chat with your doctor or pharmacist before adding Maral Root.

Maral Root (Rhaponticum carthamoides) is a Siberian herb used as an 'adaptogen' and is popular among athletes for stamina and muscle building, largely because it contains plant compounds called ecdysteroids.
