Here's the simple version: your water pill, Moduretic (amiloride with hydrochlorothiazide), works to bring your blood pressure down. Olive oil can gently nudge blood pressure in that same direction, so the two may add up a little. This isn't a dangerous clash, but the effects can stack.

If your pressure drops more than expected, you might feel dizzy, lightheaded, or tired, especially when standing up quickly. Keep in mind this is mostly tied to using olive oil regularly as part of your diet, in place of less healthy fats. The drizzle on your salad isn't going to cause trouble, and the evidence here is fairly modest. If you're thinking about concentrated olive oil supplements, or you notice new dizziness, check in with your pharmacist or doctor first.

About Amiloride and Hydrochlorothiazide

What Is Amiloride and Hydrochlorothiazide Used For?

Brand names: Moduretic, Amilzide, Moduret 25, Amil-Co

Amiloride hydrochloride and hydrochlorothiazide tablets are used for patients with high blood pressure (hypertension) or congestive heart failure who tend to develop low potassium (hypokalemia) when taking a thiazide or other diuretic alone — or for whom keeping potassium levels in a normal range is especially important, such as people taking digoxin or those with significant heart rhythm problems.

The tablets may be used on their own or alongside other blood pressure medicines, such as methyldopa or beta blockers. This combination product is not intended as the first-choice treatment for swelling (edema) or high blood pressure unless low potassium is a specific concern.
