Here's the simple version: both rufinamide (Banzel) and phenibut can calm down the brain, so stacking them may add up. Rufinamide already tends to make people drowsy, tired, dizzy, or a little unsteady on their feet. Phenibut is a strong central nervous system depressant on its own, and at higher doses it has been linked to heavy sedation and even slowed, shallow breathing in case reports. Putting the two together could deepen that drowsiness and, in a worst case, make breathing too slow.

To be fair, this concern is based on how these substances work, not on solid studies of this exact pair. Still, I genuinely worry about phenibut in general, since it carries real risks of dependence and rough withdrawal. Please loop in your doctor or pharmacist before combining anything with rufinamide, and ask about safer, proven options.

What Is Rufinamide Used For?

Rufinamide — available as Banzel and generic rufinamide — is used as an add-on treatment (alongside other seizure medicines) for seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome (LGS), a severe type of epilepsy that usually begins in childhood and causes multiple types of seizures.

This indication applies to both the tablet and oral suspension forms, for pediatric patients 1 year of age and older as well as adults.
