Theoretically, concomitant use of quillaia with immunosuppressant drugs might decrease the effectiveness of these drugs.

Here's the thinking behind this pairing. Quillaia contains saponins, and some early lab studies suggest these compounds can give the immune system a little nudge to be more active. Alemtuzumab (Campath) works in almost the opposite direction for leukemia, it teams up with your immune system to wipe out certain white blood cells, and the goal is often to quiet overactive immune activity in other settings. So in theory, an immune-stimulating supplement could work against what your treatment is trying to do.

I want to be honest though, this is only a theoretical concern based on test-tube research, not real-world cases. We don't have proof it actually weakens alemtuzumab in people. Still, with a serious cancer therapy like this, it's not worth the gamble. Please run any quillaia product past your oncologist or pharmacist before using it.

Quillaia (soap bark tree) is a plant whose bark contains foaming compounds called saponins, and it is widely used as an emulsifier in foods and drinks. As a supplement or herbal remedy its benefits are not well proven, and large amounts can be irritating or toxic, so it should be used cautiously and only as directed.

What Is Alemtuzumab Injection (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) Used For?

Brand name: Campath

Alemtuzumab (brand name Lemtrada) is approved for adults with relapsing forms of multiple sclerosis (MS) — including relapsing-remitting MS and active secondary progressive MS. Because it carries serious risks, it is generally reserved for people who have already tried at least two other MS medications without adequate results.

It is not recommended for people with clinically isolated syndrome (CIS), a first episode of MS-like symptoms, due to its risk profile.
