Here's the idea behind this one. Quillaia saponins have shown immune-stimulating activity in lab dish studies, and cisplatin is sometimes grouped with drugs that calm or suppress the immune system. The theory is that nudging the immune system in the opposite direction could, in principle, work against what these medications are trying to do. I want to be straight with you though: this is a theoretical concern only, based on test tube research, not on people actually taking the two together.

For cisplatin specifically, this is a chemotherapy drug given by your oncology team, who watch your blood counts, kidneys, and response closely. Even so, I wouldn't add a quillaia supplement during treatment without their okay. The everyday food amounts used as foaming agents in drinks are very unlikely to matter. Please loop in your oncologist or pharmacist before using any quillaia product.

Quillaia (soap bark tree) is a plant whose bark contains foaming compounds called saponins, and it is widely used as an emulsifier in foods and drinks. As a supplement or herbal remedy its benefits are not well proven, and large amounts can be irritating or toxic, so it should be used cautiously and only as directed.

About Cisplatin Injection

What Is Cisplatin Injection Used For?

Brand name: Platinol-AQ

Cisplatin Injection is used to treat three types of cancer. For metastatic testicular tumors and metastatic ovarian tumors, it is used as part of combination chemotherapy — alongside other approved cancer medicines — in patients who have already had surgery and/or radiation therapy. For metastatic ovarian tumors, it can also be used alone as a second-line treatment when standard chemotherapy has stopped working and cisplatin has not been tried before.

For advanced bladder cancer (specifically transitional cell bladder cancer) that can no longer be treated with surgery or radiation, Cisplatin Injection is used as a single agent.
