IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS

Why this applies to Teplizumab-mzwv

Teplizumab-mzwv falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Rice Bran Arabinoxylan Compound interacts with.

Theoretically, rice bran arabinoxylan compound might interfere with immunosuppressants by stimulating the immune system. In laboratory and human research, rice bran arabinoxylan compound has been shown to stimulate the activity of immune cells.
Some immunosuppressants include azathioprine (Imuran), basiliximab (Simulect), cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), daclizumab (Zenapax), muromonab-CD3 (OKT3, Orthoclone OKT3), mycophenolate (CellCept), tacrolimus (FK506, Prograf), sirolimus (Rapamune), prednisone (Deltasone, Orasone), corticosteroids (glucocorticoids), and others.

Dr. Brian Staiger explains PharmD, Clinical Pharmacist

Here's the idea behind this one. Tzield (teplizumab) is an infusion that works by calming down part of your immune system. Doctors use it to delay the start of type 1 diabetes, and it does its job by quieting the immune cells that would otherwise attack the pancreas. This rice bran supplement is sold to do the opposite, to rev up immune activity. So in theory, the two could pull against each other, and the supplement might blunt some of the benefit you're hoping to get from your treatment.

I want to be honest though: this is a theoretical concern based on how each one behaves, not on real studies of people taking them together. We just don't have proof. Since Tzield is a serious therapy, please don't add this supplement without first running it by your doctor or pharmacist.

From our pharmacist’s overview on the Teplizumab-mzwv page

“Siberian cocklebur is the single riskiest item here for anyone on teplizumab-mzwv (Tzield), the infusion given to delay the onset of type 1 diabetes. About Rice Bran Arabinoxylan Compound

What is Rice Bran Arabinoxylan Compound?

  • Immune support
  • Support during cancer treatment
  • Boosting natural killer (NK) cell activity
  • General wellness in older adults
  • Fatigue and quality of life support

Rice Bran Arabinoxylan Compound (often sold under brand names like MGN-3 or BioBran) is a processed fiber from rice bran treated with mushroom enzymes, marketed mainly as an immune booster. Early small studies suggest it may affect certain immune cells, but high-quality human evidence is very limited, and it should never replace standard medical care. Talk with your pharmacist or doctor before using it, especially during cancer treatment.

About Teplizumab-mzwv injection

What Is Teplizumab-mzwv injection Used For?

Brand name: Tzield

Tzield is used to delay the onset of Stage 3 type 1 diabetes (T1D) in adults and children aged 1 year and older who have Stage 2 T1D. It is also used to delay the decline in the body's own insulin production in children and teenagers aged 8 to 17 years who were recently diagnosed with Stage 3 T1D.

There is limited evidence of safety and effectiveness in patients aged 45 and older with Stage 2 T1D. Tzield does not work for blood sugar problems that are not caused by an autoimmune process — it is not effective in non-autoimmune conditions that cause abnormal blood sugar.
