Teplizumab-mzwv falls under IMMUNOSUPPRESSANTS — the group Alfalfa interacts with.

Here's the gist with Tzield (teplizumab). This is an infusion given to help delay type 1 diabetes by calming down the immune system that is attacking your insulin-making cells. Alfalfa, on the other hand, may gently stimulate the immune system, partly because of compounds in concentrated supplement doses. So in theory the two could work against each other, and alfalfa might make teplizumab a little less effective at quieting that immune attack.

I want to be honest with you: this concern is theoretical, based on lab studies and a few case reports, not on strong human trials with this exact drug. Still, since teplizumab is serious therapy, I'd skip alfalfa supplements while you're going through treatment. Occasional alfalfa sprouts in a salad are far less of a worry. Please run it by your care team first.

What Is Teplizumab-mzwv injection Used For?

Brand name: Tzield

Tzield is used to delay the onset of Stage 3 type 1 diabetes (T1D) in adults and children aged 1 year and older who already have Stage 2 T1D — meaning their immune system is attacking insulin-producing cells, but they don't yet have overt high blood sugar symptoms.

Tzield is also used to slow the loss of the body's own insulin production in children and teenagers aged 8 to 17 years who have recently been diagnosed with Stage 3 T1D. This second use is approved under accelerated approval, meaning continued approval depends on results from ongoing confirmatory studies.
