Moexipril falls under ACE INHIBITORS (ACEIs) — the group Rice Protein interacts with.

In laboratory research, hydrolyzed rice protein inhibits angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE). In animal research, the inhibition of ACE is correlated with a reduction in systolic blood pressure. So far, this effect has not been shown in humans. Theoretically, concomitant use of rice protein and ACE inhibitors may increase the risk of blood pressure becoming too low. Use with caution. ACE inhibitors include benazepril (Lotensin), captopril (Capoten), enalapril (Vasotec), fosinopril (Monopril), lisinopril (Prinivil, Zestril), moexipril (Univasc), perindopril (Aceon), quinapril (Accupril), ramipril (Altace), and trandolapril (Mavik).

Here's the gist: in lab dishes and animal studies, certain proteins made from rice appear to block the same blood-pressure enzyme (ACE) that your moexipril already targets. Since both could be pushing in the same direction, the worry is that stacking them might lower your blood pressure a little more than expected.

I want to be honest about how thin the evidence is. This has not been shown in people, only in test tubes and animals, so it's largely theoretical. Everyday protein shakes are unlikely to cause trouble for most folks. Still, if you start using rice protein regularly, keep an eye out for signs your pressure dipped too low, like dizziness, lightheadedness when standing, or feeling unusually tired. If you notice that, check in with your pharmacist or doctor before changing anything.

What Is Moexipril Used For?

Brand name: Univasc

Moexipril Hydrochloride tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). They can be used on their own or combined with thiazide diuretics (water pills) when blood pressure is not controlled by moexipril alone.

It's worth knowing that ACE inhibitors, including moexipril, tend to lower blood pressure less effectively in Black patients than in non-Black patients, and Black patients also have a higher risk of a serious swelling reaction called angioedema with ACE inhibitors.
